History of our Cabins

Our historic log cabins were built in 1909 by the Bay de Noquet Lumber Company. The Bay de Noquet Lumber Company was a  prosperous lumbering company that cut and transported timber along the fresh waters of Lake Michigan.  When the last of the timber was cut in 1951, they sold the entire town of Nahma including these five cabins to the American Playground Co. 

American Playground Company, an Indiana based business manufactured playground equipment. After many years of business and facing tough economic times,  the American Playground Co. began selling off large pieces of land.  That was when the Orlewicz brothers acted on the sale in 1993-1994.  The eldest brother, Dennis spent much of his free time researching different properties and responding to ads in the local newspapers.  That's when he came across this 80 acres of land on the Stony Point Peninsula. Knowing his family grew up spending their summers on Houghton Lake, Dennis was determined to find a place of their own.  The three Orlewicz brothers along with their wives, purchased the five cabins from American Playground.  It would be the gathering place for the next 30 years, bringing together their family, friends, children and grandchildren.  A place where they would make memories by satisfying their love for the outdoors and being together.

The pristine beach on the shores of Lake Michigan and over 80 acres of forestry made this a dream come true!  They have taken pride in their cabins and have updated them with modern luxuries, while keeping them quaint and cozy. Today, they share them by renting them to vacationers. They hope their guests feel a sense of home away from home by enjoying the updated amenities while soaking up the tranquility,  peace and nature that surrounds them!
